Carl Richard Olsen, 94, passed away on October 13, 2025. He was born in Pennsauken, NJ, to the late Thora Marie Thorsen and Einer Olsen. Carl was an owner of Technical Products, Inc., and was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during the Korean conflict. After his military service, Carl attended Thiel College in Greenville, PA, where he graduated with a degree in Economics. He married his college sweetheart, Janice Brininger, and they moved to Pennsauken, NJ. where he began his career with duPont de Nemours, representing their products in one of their divisions. Years later, Virginia Chemicals recruited Carl to sell their commercial insect control products, leading him and Jan to relocate to the Tidewater area of Virginia, where they raised three wonderful children. Following Virginia Chemicals' acquisition by Celanese Corporation, Carl and another employee purchased the Municipal Water Treatment and Aerosol divisions, establishing Technical Products, Inc. with headquarters in downtown Portsmouth. Throughout the years, the Olsen family moved several times, living in northern New Jersey, Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Ft. Myers, Florida, but they ultimately settled in Hampton Roads for retirement.

Carl was an avid runner, golfer, and sports enthusiast. Growing up across the river from Philadelphia, he became a dedicated supporter of the Phillies and the Eagles.

He was actively involved in numerous community and church activities, including serving as the Grand Exalted Leader of the Elks. He also held the position of president on the local School Board and participated in various business-oriented organizations.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Janice B. Olsen; his daughter, Terri Olsen Reedy (James), his sons, Eric Carl Olsen (Elizabeth); and Stephen Lars Olsen (Melissa); seven grandchildren: Kaila Olsen, Alex Olsen, Cameron Reedy (Audrey), Emily Olsen, Sydney White (Anthony), Alexis Olsen, and Connor Olsen; and five great-grandchildren.
