Carey Wingard Butterworth, 72, went to his heavenly home on January 30, 2024. He was born on January 18, 1952 in Newport News, VA to the late Beulah Chalkley and Alvin Swepson Butterworth Jr. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War and later went to work as an electrical engineer and project manager for the Department of Defense. Most of all, Carey was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather - a faith-filled man who loved the Lord, his family, and his church community.

Carey is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Maria Ruiz Butterworth; daughters, Amanda Butterworth Bessette (Jeff) and Lindsey Butterworth Langston (Danny); grandchildren, Caleb, Brendan, Merrick, Logan, and Riley; sister, Linda Carol Butterworth; and brother, Alvin Swepson Butterworth III (Carolyn).

Carey's funeral service will be at 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, with Pastor Bill Powell officiating.
