Brandford Stanley, Jr. , 81, of Smithfield, VA passed away May 31, 2011. He was born in Isle of Wight County the son of the late Joseph Stringfield Stanley Nurney and Brandford Stanley, Sr. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Brandford retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Smithfield Baptist Church and the Baracca Class. He was a past deacon of Mill Swamp Baptist Church and Smithfield Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Smithfield Union Masonic Lodge #18.

Brandford is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruth P. Stanley; sons and daughters-in-law, Brandford L. "Sonny" and Penny Stanley of Smithfield, VA, Gary P. and Sandra Stanley of Edenton, NC, Grant R. and Kim Stanley of Chesapeake, VA; grandchildren, Jaime S. Lawson, Justin Stanley, Jeremy Stanley, Garrett Stanley, Abigail Stanley, Chase Stanley, and Colby Stanley; great grandchildren, Connor and Sadie Ruth Lawson; sister, Louise S. Peden of Windsor, VA; brothers, J. M. Stanley of AL, and Shelton Stanley of Smithfield, VA.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Smithfield Baptist Church. Burial will follow in St. Luke's Memorial Park. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation Friday night from 7-8 p.m. at Smithfield Baptist Church and other times at the residence.
