Blanche "Sally" Cartos, 86, passed away September 9, 2024, in Portsmouth Virginia. She was born on May 20, 1938 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri to the late Willie Alonzo Hanks and Susie Martin Hanks.

She retired from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in Chesapeake, VA after 27 years of service. She danced for over 40 years and was a longtime student with Pauline Bradshaw's School of Dance. She loved to dance, sing, thrift shop, and spend time with her grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her husband Augustus Cartos; her brothers Lee, Kenny, James, and Lester Hanks; and grandson Nicholas Ian Frank.

She is survived by her sisters Barbara Keysacker, Carolyn McPeake, and Betty Smith; her children Robert Williamson, Melanie Harris, and Denn Alaric (Julia); her grandchildren Shannon Wolfe (Bennie), James Adkins, April Parrish, Maeve, Oden, and Thora Alaric; as well as seven great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 3 p.m. with Rev. Tim Rawls officiating at Parr Funeral Home in Suffolk, VA with a small gathering following at 125 Robin Lane, Suffolk VA.
