Billy Ray Smith, Sr., 78, of Windsor, VA passed away September 20, 2014. He was born in Clearfield, TN to the late Harry W. and Ethel E. Smith. Ray retired from Newport News Shipbuilding as a nuclear pipefitter. He was a Korean War veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force. Ray was a member of Outreach Worship Center. He loved working outside around the house and garden, and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Ray is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lorene Smith; children, Sharon R. Fuchs, Billy Ray Smith, Jr. and wife, Tonya L. Smith, Patricia A. Mowery, and Alicia A. Poe; grandchildren, Heather Teel, Brandi Windsor, Daniel Fuchs, Braelyn Fuchs, Taylor Mowery, and Alex Poe; great grandchildren, Alexis Windsor and Mason Teel; 2 sisters; 2 brothers; numerous nieces and nephews; and special niece and caregiver, Cindy Barnes.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3515 Robs Dr., Suffolk, VA 23434 with Rev. Ted Woosley officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
