Betty L. Mathias Moore, 88, passed away December 6, 2022. She was born August 22, 1934 in Nansemond County, VA. She was the daughter of the late Martin Nathaniel Mathias and Eunice Asbell Mathias. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Ocie Linwood Moore, Jr.; sister, Ophelia Brown; and brothers, George Shephard Mathias and James Wilson Mathias, Sr. Betty was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church and was a member of the Joyce Ann Harrell Sunday School Class the King Savage Circle and Women's Fellowship. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi and was honored with Sweetheart Queen. She formerly worked for Birdsong Peanut Company, Dr. James M. Williams Family Practice, and I.O. Hill Furniture Company.
Betty was always willing to help anyone in need. She always had a smile on her face and a kind heart. One of her favorite things was to cook and entertaining. Her family meant more to her than anything and enjoyed having them around her.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Cathy Greene (Gregory); and son, John Craig Moore (Jennifer); grandchildren, Megan Greene Nester (Brandon), Matthew Greene (Kristin), Martin Nathaniel Moore, Mary Elizabeth Moore, Madison Sage, Corbin Sage; and a great granddaughter, Ainsley Kate Nester; sisters, Catherine M. Ambrose of Suffolk, VA, Carolyn M. Byrum (Linwood) of Ahoskie, NC, Peggy M. Carr (Payne) of Corapeake, NC; brother-in-law, Ermon Brown of Virginia Beach, VA; a very special cousin, Joyce Riddick; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to A King's Touch Home Health Care and Amedisys for all the special care given to mom.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, December 11, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Bethlehem Christian Church with Rev. Rob Slingluff officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Bethlehem Christian Church Building Fund. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
