Betty Jean Holland Burford, 69, loving and devoted mother and grandmother passed away March 2, 2008. She was born in Bedford, VA the daughter of the late Lula Aileen McGhee Holland and Oren Douglas Holland, Sr. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Nancy Stinnette and Wray Updike. Betty Jean retired after 25 years as a teacher's assistant for Suffolk Public Schools. In her time there she touched many lives of special needs children and their families. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church and later became a member of Southside Baptist Church.

Betty Jean is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Annette B. Hagwood of Suffolk, VA, Robin B. and M. Kenneth Taylor, Jr. of Yorktown, VA, Allison B. Taylor of Suffolk, VA; sons and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Connie M. Burford of Virginia Beach, VA, and David A. Burford of Suffolk, VA; grandchildren, Paul, Jarrett, Jeremy, Daniel, Sean, Jeffrey, Meghann, Bethanne, Grant, and Denise; sisters, Lorene H. Johnson, Laura H. Fariss, and Katherine H. McGhee; brother, Oren Douglas Holland, Jr. all of Bedford, VA.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Dr., Suffolk, VA 23434 with Rev. Charles W. Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family Tuesday night from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at P.O.
