Bernard "Bernie" Michael McPhatter, 74, passed away January 15, 2023. He was born in Portsmouth, VA the son of the late Daniel McPhatter and Elizabeth Frances Maguire McPhatter. He was predeceased by 2 daughters, Lisa Marie and Kimberly Ann. He attended Norview for Elementary and Junior and graduated from Norview High School. Bernie was a United States Marine Corps veteran having served during Vietnam. He went on to work and retired from the City of Norfolk as a Dispatch Supervisor. Following retirement, he worked as a security position for Tidewater Hotels & Resorts. When he fully retired he moved to Edenton where he enjoyed a strong community of neighbors and friends.
Bernie is survived by his partner in love for over 20 years, Minda Curles; daughter, Rebecca "Becky" Ann McPhatter; 3 grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Bowen, Linda Arrington, and Catherine Neal; brother and sister-in-law, John and LeAnn McPhatter; uncle, Bernard "Mickey" Maguire, Jr.; numerous nieces, nephews; and cousins.
A funeral service with military honors will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor Ben Scofield officiating. Burial will be at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery at a later date. The family will be available to greet prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation at 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306.
