Barbara E. Gates, 66, went to be with the Lord on January 19, 2017. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania the daughter of the late Harry T. Kingsbury and Margaret S. Thornton. She worked as a secretary for the Army Corps of Engineers. She was an active member of Antioch Church where she served on numerous committees. Barbara also volunteered with the voting polls for over 15 years. She loved music, crafting, and sewing and shared her talents with everyone.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 43 years, Albert Louis Gates, Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and David Foreman; son, David Gates; grandchildren, Samantha Sink, Mary Foreman, James Foreman, and Sarah Foreman; great grandson, Gabriel Sink; brother and sisters-in-law, Robert and Betty Kingsbury, Patty Colvin; brother-in-law, Roger Feltz; and nieces and nephews, Karen and Parker Freshwater, John and Esta Schuerholz, Rev. Dr. Alexander and Julie Zell, Samuel and Shelly Okoye, Douglas and Janice Pinho, Lloyd and Sabrina Feltz, Clayton Feltz, Joy and West Stewart, Hope Feltz, Mike Kingsbury, Karen and Rich Wheaton.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, January 22, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Antioch Church, 23011 Antioch Rd., Windsor, VA 23487 with Rev. Ben Montoya officiating. A time of visitation will be held prior from 12:15 - 12:45 p.m. at the church. A reception will be held from 12:45 - 1:45 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. The family would like to give special thanks to Bon Secours Hospice for their special care and to all the multitude of friends and church friends that poured out their love and support over the years. The family would also like to give special thanks to her granddaughter, Samantha, who selflessly took care and looked after Barbara. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Isle of Wight County Animal Shelter. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
