Barbara Bastinelli Chappell, 75, passed away on July 1, 2022. She was born on November 23, l946 in Rhode Island, the daughter of the late Alfred Bastinelli, Sr. and Lucia Pignatelli Bastinelli.

Barbara worked for the Navy Exchange as well as a secretary with the Public Utilities Department of Isle of Wight County.  She was a member of Alive Church of Suffolk.  One of her greatest goals was to reach others with the Gospel and Love of Jesus Christ.

Barbara attended Cradock High School where her love for music was developed under the teaching of Harriet Heath.  Her gift of singing was combined with her talent to entertain as she was an accomplished Contralto singer.  She was awarded a scholarship to the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.  She also won the talent portion for Miss Portsmouth Beauty Contest.

She performed in numerous musicals, plays, and music ministries.  She recorded her own music CD and was known as a singer soloist for private events.  Barbara even did foster parenting  for a period of time.  Barbara loved to cook and entertain with the gift of hospitality and her home was always open to friends and family.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Benjamin Lee Chappell, Jr.; step-daughters, Sarah A. Chappell, and Heather C. Stewart (Marcus); step-son, Daniel B. Chappell; grandchildren, Jaylen Isaiah Stewart, David Alexander Stewart, and Jacob Isaiah Stewart; brothers and wives, Alfred Bastinelli, Jr.(Sue) and Peter Bastinelli (Susan) with several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday July 9, 2022 at 10:00 am at Parr Funeral Home and  Crematory with Pastor Romy Feliciano officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Heart Association or to Alive Church of Suffolk.
