Obituary

Barbara Dean Bracey Redd, 87, passed peacefully, surrounded by family, on January 13, 2025.

She was a native of Isle of Wight County, and daughter of the late Clyde and Gladys Bracey.

Barbara Dean was a 1955 graduate of Windsor High School.  After graduation, she married her sweetheart, Cecil Redd.  They were business innovators in their community and opened Redd's Supermarket, among other businesses.  She enjoyed being a business owner but enjoyed interacting with the people in the community even more.

She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother.  She loved to travel with her friends anywhere, anytime and weekends at the river or the beach.

Barbara Dean is survived by her sons, Ray (Charlotte), and Gregg (Claudia); grandchildren, Courtney (Zach), David, Michael, Lexie and Jake; sisters, Janice Scott and Glenda Carr, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Redd; brothers, C.A., Robert, Tyrone, William Steele and Benjamin Bracey; sisters, Francis Gray, Evelyn Scott, Leona Jones and Betty Ann Richardson; and infant Judith.

With sincere appreciation, the family wishes to thank caregivers LeeAnn Whitfield and Ravyn Taylor.  Also, to the Heartland Hospice Staff, as they all provided loving care in the home. Special thanks to her neighbor and friend, Jill Milton, who cared for her until the end.
