Aubrey Ray Cahoon, 71, of the 1000 block of Magruder Rd. in
Smithfield, VA passed away December 10, 2006 at his
residence. He is a native of Swan Quarter, NC and the son
of the late Gwendolyn W. and Benjamin C. Cahoon. Aubrey
retired as a Lieutenant Commander after 22 years in the U.
S. Coast Guard where he was instrumental in rewriting the
5th District War Plans Manual. He attended William and
Mary and graduated from the Medical College of Virginia
School of Pharmacy in 1959. In 1965 until the present he
owned Simpson's Pharmacy. Aubrey lived his life by the
motto…"When people are your friends taking care of them is
part of the routine."
Aubrey was a former President and member of the Smithfield
Chamber of Commerce. He served two presidential terms for
the Smithfield Ruritan Club. He was a member and past
President for the 5th District Reserve Officers
Association. He was a past President and member of the
Southside Pharmaceutical Association and a Board Member of
the Virginia Board of Pharmacy. He also served as Chairman
for the Smithfield Board of Zoning Appeals.
Aubrey is survived by his wife of 38 1/2 years, Delores
Turner Cahoon; daughters and son-in-law, MaryLynn Wood
(Carl) of Crosland, GA, and Gloria Ann Diggs of Louisburg,
NC; sons and daughter-in-law, Dr. Aubrey Bruce Cahoon
(Tricia) of Murfreesboro, TN, and R. Laughton Jackson of
Louisburg, NC; grandchildren, Dr. Jennifer L. Jackson, Lt.
William F. Ashley, Jr. U.S.N, Dwight M. Watkins, Melissa
Jackson, Christopher M. Craddock, 1st Lt. Gregory E. Bew
U.S.A., Kaitlyn G. Jackson, Joseph A. Cahoon, Claire E.
Cahoon; great grandchildren, Hope E. Ashley, and Haley Rae
Bew; twin sister and sisters, Audrey C. Richardson,
Charlotte C. Ayscue, Linda C. Gray, and Bennie Gale C.
Ames; Numerous nieces and nephews and wonderful friends.
Friends may join the family Tuesday night from 6-8 at the
residence 1004 Magruder Rd., Smithfield, VA 23430. A
graveside service with military honors will be held Wednesday, December 13, 2006
at 1 p.m. at St. Luke's Memorial Park with Rev. Wayne
Blythe and Dr. Richard Peerey officiating. In lieu of
flowers contributions may be made in Aubrey's name to the
Medical College of Virginia, School of Pharmacy at 6603 W.
