Arthur Albert Thiemens, 89, made his peaceful transition January 10, 2010. He was born in Santa Monica, CA, son of Herman Thiemens and Frances Sutcliffe Thiemens. He was raised by his Father Herman and his second wife Velma in Medical Lake, WA. Arthur better known as "Art" or "Pa Pa" was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a veteran of WWII-Master Sgt. in the Army Air Corp, Retired Product Service Specialist 23 years at General Electric and 5 years at RCA, and charter member of Unity Renaissance Church, Chesapeake.
Art was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years Justine C. Thiemens, a half brother and sister Glen and Doris Thiemens. He leaves to cherish his memory son Mark Thiemens and daughter-in-law Nasrin Marzban of Carlsbad, CA; son Scott Thiemens and Encarnita Alcarn of SW Ranches, FL; daughter Christy Thiemens of Norfolk, VA.; grandchildren Scott Thiemens Jr. and his wife Josel Thiemens, also Max Thiemens, Lily Thiemens, Justine Encarn Thiemens; great-grandchild Remi Thiemens; Sue Vreeland his "other" daughter, Virginia Coy, numerous cousins and friends. Art was a member of the Churchland/Western Branch Lions club for 33 years, Lions President for 2 years 81-82, Lion of the Year in 1974 and 89, award winner of the Melvin Jones Fellowship award 1993 (Lions Club highest honor), member of the Portsmouth Amateur Radio Club, licensed Ham Radio operator "AA4AT", member of the ARRL-American Radio Relay Society-Roanoke Division (past Secretary and assistant director), received Vic Clark award 1985 for amateur radio, past treasurer and board member for Unity Renaissance Church, Churchland Child Opportunity treasurer, volunteer and ballroom dance instructor for Chesapeake Parks and Recreation, founding member of Unity Renaissance Church, Meals on Wheels volunteer, Boy Scout leader, volunteer driver for Portsmouth Parks and Recreation-visually impaired, varsity letters in 3 high school sports, and played the trombone.
Art also enjoyed many recreational hobbies: golfing, dancing, cooking, rock collecting and polishing, gardening, bird watching, computer and camera clubs, fishing, and family vacations at Long Beach, NC His favorite home was in Chesapeake, VA (for over 35 years). Art will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. He was a kind, loving, and generous person. "Pa Pa" is now golfing with the angels and dancing with his special angel Justine!
