Arthur Clayton Bradley, 88 passed away on June 5, 2011, surrounded by family members in his home that he had built over sixty years ago with his own hands.
Born in Suffolk, VA on April 6, 1923 t o the late William Benjamin and Ella Florence Knight Bradley, Mr. Bradley survived the Great Depression years becoming a self taught carpenter, contractor, plumber, auto mechanic, mathematician, electrician and computer whiz.
At the onset of WWII, Arthur C. Bradley received training in Gainesville, TX and went on maneuvers at Camp Livingston, LA. He served with the 341st Infantry - 86th Black Hawk Division and received cardiac vascular medical training in El Paso, TX at Ft. Bliss' William Beaumont General Hospital. T5 Bradley pulled two tours of duty overseas in Germany, France and the Philippines and spent his war years as an Army Medic. At war's end, he received an Honorable Discharge with medals and badges consisting of the Bronze Star, Army Combat Medical, Combat Infantryman, Good Conduct, American Campaign, European-Africa-Middle Eastern Campaign, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign, and WWII Victory. He also received an honorary medal from the United
Daughters of the Confederacy. Mr. Bradley was retired from Gold Kist Peanut Company and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
He was predeceased by his wife of over 65 years, Florence D. Bradley, and his brothers William B. Bradley, Jr. and Johnny I. Bradley. Survivors include daughter Patricia B. Buck; son Shannon C. Bradley and his wife Karen G. Bradley; daughter Dr. Cathy J. Bradley and her husband Dr. Craig D. Perry; grandchildren Billy K. Buck and his wife Trinh Q. Buck, Colin B. Perry and Matthew C. B. Perry; brother Ralph T. Bradley and his wife Ann G. Bradley; brother Cecil H. Bradley and his wife Mary B. Bradley; sister-in-law Nell B. Mort and her husband Charlie, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with military honors will be held Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Holly Lawn Cemetery with Rev. David Blevins officiating. Friends may join the family other times at his residence. Condolences may be registered at www.parrfuneralhome.com
