Anne Barrett Martin died peacefully at her family home in Smithfield on Monday, February 27, 2012 at the age of 79. She was the daughter of Anne Cowling Barrett and Fredrick Mitchell Barrett, II. She was a graduate of Smithfield High School and attended Hollins College. She was President of Barrett-Folk Insurance Agency until her retirement and was the first Executive Secretary of the Smithfield/Isle of Wight County Chamber of Commerce. Her memberships included Daughters of American Colonists, Daughters of the Confederacy, Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities where she was also a docent, and Trinity United Methodist Church. She served as the first female member of the Isle of Wight County School Board during the 1960's and was a board member of the Isle of Wight Commission on Aging. She was a third generation member of The Shakespeare Class of Smithfield.

Anne is survived by her daughters Susan Webb (Charles), Nancy Fortier (Richard), grandchildren Katherine Greene (Matthew), Elizabeth Austin (William), Christopher Fortier, her brother, Fredrick M. Barrett, III, and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 357 S. Church Street Thursday from 1pm to 3pm. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Blackwater Regional Library/ Smithfield Branch. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com
