Abel Edward Moore, Jr., 67, passed away on June 17, 2012. He was born in Pasquotank County, NC on September 14, 1944, the eldest son of the late Abel Edward, Sr. and Susan Elizabeth Temple Moore.

Abel worked at the Norfolk Ford Plant for years, and retired from the Portsmouth Marine Terminal as a longshoreman. He loved fishing, boating, and spending time with his grandchildren at "Moore's Paradise" at Lake Gaston.

Survivors include his two daughters, Lorriane "Lorri" Moore and her partner Kevin Carlson, and Judith "Judi" Moore and her partner Dean Drake, five grandchildren, Chelsea Young, Alex Naslund, Kaitlyn "Katie" Holloman, Sydney Holloman, and Thomas Young; soon-to-be born great-grandchild Zoe; four siblings, Evelyn Stokley of Wilmington, NC, Charles Moore, Andrea Kilmer and husband Ron, and Walter Moore, all of Virginia Beach; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Abel was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Susan "Sue" and his sister Margaret Sanborne.

The family wishes to thank all the nurses at Sentara that provided loving care to Abel and his daughters as they stayed by his side over the last several months.

A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Dr., Suffolk, VA with Rev. Connie Shoemaker officiating.
