Mattie Arthur Johnson

Mattie Arthur Johnson, 82, of Suffolk, VA passed away July 27, 2012. She was born in Jingo, TN the daughter of the late Patti Hupp Arthur and Francis Marion Arthur. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Allison Johnson and her brother, A. R. Arthur. Mattie retired from Obici Hospital as a unit secretary. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Main St., Suffolk, VA.

Mattie is survived by her daughters, Sharon Hawkins of Suffolk, Marsha Eley and husband, Kevin of Chincoteague; grandchildren, Michael Miller (Diana), Justin Eley (Jennie);great grandchild, Matthew Miller; sister, Frances Martin of Smithfield; brothers, Thomas and Chester Arthur both of South Boston, VA; special friend, William Ashley, Jr. of Suffolk and his children, Barry and Donna Ashley; numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Dr., Suffolk, VA with Rev. Charles W. Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation prior to the service from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at her residence. Memorial donations may be made to the Union Baptist Church at 6365 Church St., Chincoteague, VA 23336 or the American Diabetes Association at 870 Greenbrier Cir., Greenbrier Tower II, Suite 404, Chesapeake, VA 23320.
